Here's to new beginnings

2010 - 551 blog posts
2011 - 173 blog posts
2012 -   54 blog posts
2013 -   36 blog posts
2014 -     1 blog posts
2015 -     1 blog posts

I don't need to plot a graph to paint a picture for you readers. This blog is on its last legs. And its been that way for quite a while. The posts in 2014 and 2015 were there just so that I could say to myself that I had been blogging for 6 years. I guess I am easy to fool, at least when I do so.

Still, no regrets. Its been a great journey so far. Lots of friends made all over the world. Still have a tad below 4000 followers on twitter (that's just an ego trip, right?). Anyway, I don't want to spend too much time dwelling over the past. Here's the link to the best of the blog so far, if you are interested. It's not half bad, even if I say so myself. If nothing else, it does represent an honest journey of a trader.

I was 28 when I started the blog, so that makes me 34 now. The good news is, a lot has changed since then. The bad news is, a lot has changed since then. I wont bore you with the details. Its been a pretty average journey so far as far as life is concerned. It could have been better. It could have been worse. You know what I mean.

But you need to know that I have moved on from technical analysis to Buffet. Its hard to trade when you have a full time job. Oh yeah, the fact that you have moved halfway round the earth doesn't help too. Have over 60% of my net worth in the stock market, still think picking stocks is the most challenging job in the world and simply love stocks. Only thing that has changed is my way of picking stocks. Turns out fundamental analysis and technical analysis combined is a kick ass way of picking stocks.

So, what prompted me to start writing this blog again? More on that in the next few posts. Will it continue this time or will it be just another false start? Frankly speaking, I don't know. Somethings, only time can tell. We will be in touch.

Take care and good luck!

Predictions for 2016

Its that time of the year again and respecting the time honoured tradition, here are my top 5 financial predictions for 2016.

1. Market volatility is here to stay.
2. The time for easy pickings is over.
3. Be stock specific in your approach.
4. Keep a close eye on FED action.
5. The market upside is limited.
6. The market downside is limited.

I know I said 5 predictions, but you can choose between 5 or 6 depending upon your outlook of the market. Of course, both will come correct. That's the thing about my predictions. I stand by them and am absolutely sure they will all come true by end of 2016.

Happy New Year!!

Take care and good luck!

P.S.: In case you haven't got it till now, you are better off spending time with your loved ones or lazing around or napping or playing with a string or looking deep into space or lazing around (I know I already said this one, but its my favourite!) or doing all of the above, rather than reading any financial predictions for next year. Be rest assured, you will know the future when it arrives.

Of missed opportunities and waiting for new ones

Its been so long since I posted that I dont know from where to start this post. Well, how about the beginning. I have been told that's often a good place to start. I started this blog four years ago when I was still in grad school. That seems like a lifetime ago. Simpler times. Joe Pa still ruled (Having spent six years in Happy Valley, I am yet to make up my mind on that one. Heart or head thing). PhD was easy, trading was tough. But that's what made it fun. Returned home. Got married, took a job, got in the rut. You know how the story goes. Somewhere down the line, the tables got turned. Life got tough, trading got easy.

Along the way, I have become convinced that life offers all of us an opportunity to follow our dreams at least once. But life, like the Trading Gods, can be quite a tease. Often, it will give you that one single opportunity when you are least equipped to take it. Then its up to you and whether you have the guts to take that opportunity and make it count. Show life that you have what it takes. Show that you are up for the challenge. Show that you can make it count.

If you dont take that opportunity, all you can do is wait for the next one, if at all it ever comes, and live with "what if?". I know I haven't said much but I think I have said enough. I wonder how many of you readers out there can relate to this post.

Take care and good luck! I promise to be back.
